Steve Balcom Update & Friday Night

We're three weeks away from the Mammoth weekend! We've gotten so many cool responses from so many folks that are coming to town and from locals who are coming as well. Lots of odds & ends to cover: 1) Friday Night: We will meet up on Friday night at West End Wine Bar on West Franklin Street for drinks starting at 8pm. They'll be doing some drink specials and, weather permitting, we will take over the rooftop patio. We'd like to get a head count on who is planning to be there s… Continue

lane wurster Turning 21 is more fun

It's been awesome hearing from so many of you since this site went live. The good news is it looks like a Mammoth reunion WILL happen. The bad news is that it won't be this October. There's just not time to pull it off at the level we'd like to do it. One of the contributing factors (in case you didn't hear) was the fact that Steve and Karen's house was struck by lightning and destroyed in an ensuing fire last month. Needless to say, things have been upside down in their world. For this and a va… Continue

Paul Kean The BATS still going strong

Hi, here's a bit of current news .. The Bats are now 25 years old and we are just mastering our 7th album (9th if you count the complilations). Our last album, "The Bats at the National Grid", was released through Magic Marker who are based in Portland Oregon. Didn't do too badly with plenty of College Radio support - we got playlisted on about 200 USA radio stations! Legacy of the great work Mammoth did back in the 1990's. Magic Marker are about to release an album by our side project, Minisna… Continue

Steve Balcom Seven Brides, Pre-Parties and Drunk Santa

Most every NC staffer undoubtedly has some (hazy) memories of our annual Mammoth Holiday party. Plus, our NY & LA offices and even our Canadian label partner attended at one point or another. At first we had the party in a bar—I remember one in ’89 at La Terraza or whatever the name of that bar was above Local 506. The reason I remember it being upstairs is because I fell down those stairs on my way out. At least that’s what people told me. As the company grew we moved it to a restaurant (Cr… Continue
